Re: Need Some Advice
WSJ Online is a great paper to read. Even though it sounds like a financial paper, it's not and covers many worldly and cultural issues (including popular culture). It's very well written, and is geared towards an audience of a more distinguished caliber. Its readership consists mainly of highly edu...
Re: MIA
I'm back! Sorry I didn't hop in on any games last night. I got drawn into the COD5 rank grind. Yeah this was pretty quick. The system was only in their facilities for less than 24 hours. It was the UPS trip there and back that took the most time. I sent it on a Thursday and it was back to me by the ...
Re: MIA
Thanks. I looked it up and there is a lot of info out there on how to identify Zephyr vs Falcon vs Jasper.
Re: MIA
Is there anyway to check whether the motherboard i get back (if they replace it) is falcon or not?

Re: So I just bought a set of arcade twinsticks....
By the way, what kind of joystick handles are those? I can tell they are not the Sanwa ones. But they also do not look like the Sega ones that are on the DC and SS sticks, which I thought was the same molding they used for the arcades. The turbo button is rectangular instead of circular like on my D...

Re: So I just bought a set of arcade twinsticks....
Wow... how does one play with that on their lap? Better watch out for the rusty edges. I think you can get all sorts of sick from that. I'm guessing you're going to mount this. By the way, there are 2 different auctions on ebay right now for the entire sit-in cabinets. I think one was in Cali for pi...

I bought my old Tekken hori sticks from there in the past. I had a positive experience... although I've read that others have had trouble with them.

Re: GamerTags
OK I just added another batch to my friends list. Once I get my FB360 back, I'll connect everyone and get our parties started again. So accept the invites people! Funny when you guys post your gamertags here and don't accept. I eventually have to retract the invite because it causes me to have to sc...

Re: Good Games/ Bad Games Thread
Man, spectator mode must be cool. No longer do we need to worry about having an uneven number of players in the lobby, or worry that your opponent goes idle leaving you without a matchup. Is it possible and smooth to record matches seen in spectator mode? I can't wait till I get my repaired failbox ...
Re: MIA
I think they also sometimes give you someone else's motherboard refurbished... either way, I'll be pretty happy when I get it back.

Re: Looks like making a custom twin stick is the way to go.
For this type of electronics, you should go with a 60/40 rosin core solder. I use the 0.32" diameter stuff from Radio Shack and it works great. It is thin enough to get inside any cramped controller circuit board. My technique is to stick the soldering iron tip directly into the joint touching ...

Re: Looks like making a custom twin stick is the way to go.
also, there are 2 main ways to desolder.... 1) Heat the solder, and then use a pump to suction the melted solder away. This comes in many different varieties. You can get desoldering irons with built-in rubber bulb pumps from Radio Shack. Unfortunately, the tips on these are pretty huge and might be...

Re: Looks like making a custom twin stick is the way to go.
What are you doing that is causing boiling and splashing? I've never come across that before. Are you using too much solder? There are a lot of great tutorials on the web teaching you how to solder. Same with desoldering -- this is a little tricker than soldering.

Re: I feel like I've hit a wall in Virtual On
Deltastrike, I think one way you can try to improve is to practice against others without doing your double CC and then ground hit combo. From the times I've played you (and you always win) you seem to be a bit dependent on it to take off a huge chunk of health. Try playing without using it at all a...

Re: IMPORTANT POLL: Round-robin or Bracket?
Yeah frequency of reset would be determined by the software. I am still looking for a site that hosts these and would allow us to create one on the fly. I think I need to find concrete rules for a specific format that we can actually use because we're talking about this in abstract and it's not help...

Re: IMPORTANT POLL: Round-robin or Bracket?
I wouldn't rule this out so quick. Elo is extremely flexible. Typically you do not have ongoing ladder tournaments that go on forever. There are seasons. So points/rankings reset and you start fresh after set periods. People can join each tournament at anytime, and can decide to stop playing wheneve...
