With the release of the Model 2 collection just announced by Sega...

comes another chance to get a VO Stick in the same vein as the VOOT and VO4 sticks... this time, a OMG version.

A PS3 and XBox 360 version...

Wow, finally an arcade perfect OMG port with proper net play. I really wish Sega would release a new VO game, though.

The "Twin Stick 3" pretty much looks the same as the TSEX. I hope this is an indication that a new VO game is coming to PS3. OMG is great and all, but would they really release a controller specifically for a port of a 17 year old game?

Hurray!

I can't wait to see if the Japanese players can find a way to make Fei-Yen competitive in VOOM. From what I remember Fei-Yen Kn was pretty bad in VOOT in the original years as well, but on Xbox 360 VOOT the Japanese players seem to have made her a top contender, according to what most others say. I've been wondering how much of that is due to improvements Fei-Yen Kn got from 5.45 to 5.66 (and/or downgrades of other VRs) versus how much of that is due to an overall increase in everyone's skill levels.

I don't know if anyone remembers, but I always said even back 10 years ago that I thought Fei-Yen Kn had the potential to be the best character, but it would require supreme skill for that to start taking effect. Of course, she's also among the easiest beginner choices too. Yet at the majority of skill levels I get the feeling she's the worst VR.

VOOM Fei-Yen was utter trash though. Although I used her when I was learning the controls, I could never use her once I got past the basics.

I still haven't opened my copy of VO Force yet. I need to get around to trying it quick, before VOOM comes out and I don't have time.

Pre-orders have nearly been reached for the twin sticks:

Was there any difference between this and the ones that said "Force 4" apart from the logo on the twin sticks?

In VOOM FY is really only useful for the hit-and-run strategy, against most bad players one could get in a single hit as Fei and then just run around the screen dodging things for the rest of the time due to her speed. In competitive play, though, very few chose her for sure.

I'm glad they're making this, but I'm not sure if I'll get it... I couldn't play it decently at all without twinsticks and it's not really worth that investment to me when I have the main cab for local multiplayer. Maybe I can hook a couple of old 360s up inside the cabinet and make them run this port with netplay  I do hope this is indicative of a new VO game altogether, though. I can only imagine what would happen to local arcade scenes if an all new game made the rounds. For the first time ever in the US we're at a point where most major arcade chains (like Dave and Busters) actually buy almost every new game from the major publishers in bulk and can afford to take the risks with the big new games through bulk pricing, so we may actually see a widescale arcade release if one is truly made.

A US arcade release would be great. Here's hoping that a new VO, if one is ever released, actually it makes here.

About time, I'm more often on the PS3 than 360 (which I have yet to rebuy). Now if only VOOT came out on PSN I would have all the VO I'll ever need.

Are the games exclusive? When I click PS3 joystick, I see Marz. For 360, I see VOOM. PS owners always get the worst version of Virtual On lol.

The Youtube video says the Model 2 Collection will be available on both PSN and XBLA so don't worry.

But I guess they are also re-releasing MARZ for some reason.

I'd buy Marz. I'd never seen Force or Marz before, as I'd never owned a PS2. (I generally keep myself to a limit of 1~2 consoles per gen).

Having recently played it, I'm pretty happy with the gameplay of Force. I don't know if I'd say it's perfect, but I've never thought VOOM or VOOT had perfect gameplay either and at least personally I have no reason to put VOOT up on the pedestal like I know many other players do.

I do see the arguments that a single-player oriented 1v1 version of Force might be a pretty pathetic game, although I can't say for sure without trying it. The 2v2 nature of Force makes things feel really friendly to new players such as myself. Even though I don't know how to play and the Very Hard CPU kills me, I can almost hold my own in most online rooms, just by hiding and trying not to get in my partner's way, so the result of the match can be determined by him and not me. :)

To a completely new player though, online Force is a nightmare because no Japanese lobby will tolerate a novice, and most won't tolerate laggers, which is understandable.

I have a sad feeling that VOOM XBLA will not have split player. I don't think any of Sega arcade ports on XBLA has splitscreen so VOOM won't be any exception.

I was kinda hoping that SEGA would fix this issue. I cannot imagine how difficult it would be to program such a feature into a game. Not everybody has another console system hooked up to another TV screen.

Some of the games were released (not OMG).

Sega 'Model 2' arcade collection out now on XBLA

They are each priced at 400 MS Points. I haven't seen a release data for OMG yet. Did anyone pick up any of the three released games? I am wondering about the quality of the port and multiplayer net code.

Medic got Sonic the Fighters and says the netcode is pretty good. Also, Hi.

Being a low budget release and time contraints, I think it would be quite hard to add splitscreen given only the original Model 2 source code. Other 360 games are build with splitscreen from the very beginning. For VOOM, SEGA has to add it to the original arcade source. PS2 port has splitscreen, but it was a full budget retail release. I don't know how faithful PS2 port would be to the arcade and Japanese players would complain if it is not faithful enough. There are already some complaints amongst some of the Japanese that VOOT 5.66 XBLA is not 100% same as arcade 5.66.

What are the differences?

Well, I can think of one that is pretty obvious, though I'm guessing it isn't the same things the Japanese players are complaining of. Since the game is widescreen, you can see much more to the sides now. However this issue has been around since Dreamcast VOOT because it also had the option to choose a widescreen split-screen mode.
