Virtual-On: Operation Moongate PC Port Update

Postby Van0079 » 13 Mar 2017, 20:56

As you may or may not know, the ancient PC port of VOOM is hard to find, and harder to get working right, especially on modern systems. However, I found a website where someone had been taking various Saturn PC ports and giving them bugfixes and updates to run on modern systems. As it turns out, Virtual-On is one of them. ... e-retrobox

He has pretty clear installation instructions available, which makes this pretty much impossible to screw up. Now there's no excuse not to play the original VO, since a toaster from 2004 can run it pretty fine.

I've gotten a twinstick-ish setup with a dual analog controller and joy2key (ran in admin mode, otherwise it won't work), but I can't get the game out of fullscreen. No idea if we can use the netplay, but it would be pretty fun if we could. Game also has a debug mode so you can set it to run at 60fps.

I've spoken to the guy who made this a few times via youtube comments. Even if the native netplay doesn't work, he has a Hamachi group open for matches.

I'm still interested in testing the Model2 emulator's netplay functions, but if this installer's version actually fixes crashing and whatnot, that's awesome.
