I don't get the hate; Anime influence has always been in VO since the beginning, despite it not being in your face obvious due to it being limited to audio dramas and short stories. I mean like, Cybernet Rhapsody was pure 90's cheese with 2 dorks being transported into VO-land and features human form Fei-yen singing.

Image

Then there's also the Rose Sisters and Hatter, which are totally anime characters.

I dunno about you guys, but I prefer my quirky Japanese games to stay Japanese-y as possible, no matter how fan-servicy they get. Robot fighting games that ain't Gundam isn't exactly selling like hotcakes outside Japan, and making changes to appeal to the western audience doesn't always go well (ie: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bomberman:_Act_Zero, doubly so for a niche game like VO which already has it's own devoted fanbase- change too much and you'll end up losing them too.
If some Samurai/Loli mech/random crossovers is enough to offend then you're probably better off playing Armored Core. Just sayin'. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Anyways, if this means we'll get more VO in the future, I'm all for it. SEGA's on full comeback mode recently (Have you guys seen the trailer for Valkyria Chronicles 4? HYPE!). Now if only they could do something about ValkyriaChronicles3/Bayonetta/Bad Sonic games

This may or may not seem like old news to everyone else, but I thought I'd share it anyway:

It looks like L'ln Plajiner is also going to be in this game as well. I looked up her name and it turns out her physical appearance matches that of one of the female characters that I've seen in pictures of the game perfectly! So now I(along with possibly many other people) now know what she looks like. I can't believe I didn't discover this sooner!

I may not be the most knowledgeable person about the VO Storyline, but I already know enough about L'ln to know that she created the Original Fei-Yen(and by extension, her mass-produced replicas), the Prototype Angelan, known as Ice Doll(and her decendants, as well), and Guarayakha. She also created the MARZ Special Investigation Unit, and perhaps even had a hand in creating Tangram(from VO: MARZ) as well, though I'm not 100% sure about that.

Here's a [correct] picture of her:

EDIT (02/07/18): The picture I posted before was of Lilina, the battle navigator. I didn't realize this until some time after posting it. Now I can say with 100% certainty that I know what L'ln Plajiner looks like, outfit and all, since this new picture came from the Official Website.

Most or all of the sources you mentioned weren't available in the beginning. And I furthermore think it valid to ignore certain side releases or material as not being canon, if that is your preference.

Surely not at the same time as the game's release, but still during the the OMG days. Canon or not they're not exactly a new addition either, which was my point. If there's anything on this that I agree on is that having character potraits popping up too often can be distracting.

Her presence in the novel is a major plot point, though given the crossover nature her role isn't 100% the same as it is in the Virtual-On storyline. The battle navigator is also based on her appearance. If my voice recognition abilities are good enough, she sounds like she's voiced by Minami Tsuda.

I think that might be all the pre-order bonuses revealed now. MentholMoose gets a keychain of Misaka, nyahaha.

My favorites are the swimsuit poster and the 4 bookmarks. Not sure if the bookmarks cost anything. VR enthusiasts may want to consider the clear crystal Temjin from the Sega store, but it almost certainly has to cost a lot.

Tutorial with Komoe-sensei. It's looking quite a bit like the ones you see in modern fighting games with a checklist of actions that lets you progress.
Plenty of single player content like mission and survival modes, which have boss battles featuring oversized VRs. Fun stuff. Also seems there's another arcade-style mode that lets you customize VR stats.
Of course, there's netplay. You can co-op mission mode too.
There's cross-saving stats/story progress between PS4 and Vita.

That just looks similar to the Force tutorial.

I'm not sure if this was clarified recently or if we just failed to notice earlier, but the limited edition stuff is entirely different between the Vita and PS4 versions. The PS4 limited editions are similar to what was in the Force limited edition, but the Vita limited edition is like some anime drama CD and anime girls book.

If you want both stuff you'll have to buy both versions. And this is separate from the individual store bonuses (I'm not sure if those are pre-order only, or if that varies from store to store).

I guess I didn't notice, then. Since I can't read or understand Japanese, I wonder if the limited edition Vita stuff would be good for me. Is the CD going to have music or just talking? I don't need drama CDs. On the other hand what if the book has the Misaka poster picture and the other store-exclusive girl pictures in it?

I wish I knew beforehand the contents, this game will be very expensive if I have to buy 2 limited edition versions of this game with Misaka posters and stuff.

I don't even know if I will like the music of this game enough to want the PS4 limited edition stuff. But I'm hoping the book will have some new pictures of Fei-Yen in it without skirt. I want to see new Bal without clothes too.

I still don't own either a Vita or a PS4. I tried to buy a PS4 slim during the gamestop black friday sale but it sold out. I just realized that this game is probably going to cost me at least twice as much as a PS4 slim itself, this is scary.

I'm going off the official VO site right now. Vita LE has a book and a soundtrack CD.

Book contains the following:
  • Extended interview with Kamachi Kazuma
Novella - short story set after the event of the collaboration novel, complete with illustrations
Manga - Touma and Index go on a date
"Soundtrack CD" contains just one track:
  • Talk show with the seiyuu for Kuroko, Index and Misaka
Audio drama - Index, Misaka and Shokuhou battle for Touma
    Main theme - "Get Ready!"
PS4 LE has the giant 500+ page artbook Chronicle 20 and a proper soundtrack by Yuzo Koshiro.

PS: You know you can just buy the LE stuff 2nd hand later on right?

I finally pre-ordered my PS4 Limited Edition copy of A Certain Magical Virtual-On from Dengekiya through the FromJapan middleman service a little over 3 hours ago. Now I just have to save up a bit more money and then I'll be able to get a PS4 to play it on and I'll be all set! 8-)

Also, I found out on https://www.baka-tsuki.org/project/inde ... On_Preface earlier today that L'ln Plajiner did indeed create the Tangram. It even says it outright, under where her name is.

I just started using FromJapan, switching from Japonica Market, as my proxy service a few months ago, too. Their fees are crazy cheap, it's actually totally free or minimal, considering they are a full proxy service that takes care of payment, and not just a reshipper. However, it's getting close to 3 months and I haven't yet gotten my first shipment from them (there is tracking, which says the package is sailing around the entire earth via ocean).

I had to switch from Japonica Market proxy because both they and Suruga-ya changed. I tried to re-order a second copy of the exact same anime pillow I ordered using Japonica last year...but Suruga-ya's new website system flags it as porn, and Japonica also flagged it as porn, and wouldn't buy it for me.

I had considered buying the VO Index bonus stuff secondhand too, but we will see. Neither Mandarake nor Suruga-ya ever separated out the Limited Edition stuff from the Force Memorial Box for individual purchase, so I am assuming it will be the same for this game. But there is a greater chance the store exclusive bonuses will be separated out. Only Mandarake ships directly overseas though, Suruga-ya (where I bought my Force Memorial Box from directly for very cheap) stopped accepting overseas orders many years ago.

Sounds like for sure I don't need the Vita drama CD, but there might be stuff in the book I want? I will probably gamble on not getting it, and try to get it secondhand if the need arises.
