FlipTopBox memorial thread (and current match)

Post by mechazoidal »

I should have posted this earlier, but it's been a busy week. :(

On April 17th, Tom Music, Auburn Virtual-On Crew's 'FlipTopBox' passed away after a long battle with cancer.

I memorialized him the best I could, remembering when I first met him in AVC, and later on in life.

The only play record we have that's survived is his match against Quad from the 2001 Illusionz Virtual-On tournament.

His wake on Friday was attended by 120+ people, including members of the Seattle tech community and all remaining members of AVC in the area. Including Quad himself, who flew in from Australia for the weekend.

Even though nobody is probably paying attention at this point on Easter, the remaining members of AVC are idling under Mechazoidal's GT at 4:11pm PDT. Hit the tag up until it's offline or this thread says it's closed!

edit: Match over.

Scott, I read your post, it is well written, better than what I could do. I don't know what I can say besides that Tom will be missed, and I wish the best to his family.

Sorry to hear that and my condolences. The few times that I played him with him, he was a skilled player and that left an impression on me.

I didn't know him as Tom Music, I knew him as FlipTopBox, so

Rest in peace FlipTopBox.

My deepest condolences to all family and friends. I unfortunately never had the pleasure of meeting FlipTopBox online, but it sounds like he was one hell of a guy (and a skilled player to boot).

R.I.P, Tom Music.
