Re: Buying items from Japan
Made my first order with DeJapan. Overall probably good, but a few problems. Their faq pages are not well written, but DeJapan charges 100 yen per item , and not per order like I'd thought. This is still pretty good. They are most directly comparable to From Japan, since only these two services do n...

Re: Buying items from Japan
There's another relatively new, really good proxy DeJapan. I'm hoping to try them soon. Their commission fees are supposedly zero if you just use them for forwarding (this is amazing considering that unlike most forwarding services, they will also help you to pay, which is critically important). And...

Re: Buying items from Japan
Looks like I haven't updated my activities here in ages. From Japan was the best proxy service by far for a number of years, and they mostly replaced Japonica Market for me (they could never replace them completely, as each proxy service has their quirks, and From Japan has never accepted mercari or...

Re: OMG (VOOM) tier list/match-up chart
https://i.imgur.com/sYqzc4y.png Here is an updated tier list by ifield. It seems to me like VOOM became way more popular in the PS4 Masterpiece era and the play level has improved, at least compared to the PS3/Xbox era. Some "master-class players" now exist that only started in the PS4 er...

We've sort of been transitioni...

Re: Technical review for PS4 Masterpiece
VOOM is going to be simple: it's pretty much identical to Xbox 360. (PS3 had a color subsampling graphics problem). I'm not sure what the 3D rendering resolution is, probably 1080p, but it doesn't look any higher than Xbox 360 and PS3, so I now suspect that VOOM on those consoles was in 1080p as wel...

Technical review for PS4 Masterpiece
After hearing many complaints about Masterpiece's technical qualities, I decided against purchasing it and have stayed away from VO for 3~4 years now. Various other reasons also contributed to my decision. Now a variety of circumstances have led me to return, and I plan to play often and increase my...

Re: Gross input latency test on PS4 Masterpiece, OMG and OT
Excellent testing, thanks very much for this. I had tested VOOT frame data some years ago (I never posted close combat frames, although I did finish a detailed investigation on how CC frames and inputs work in general, and completed testing for Fei-Yen). I did not use any external hardware like you ...

Video game soundtracks
Although progress has declined lately, people are now able to rip and play the proprietary sampled music formats for most games and consoles in their original quality. These are typically lossy ADPCM based formats, which perform worse than transformation based MPEG audio formats at low bitrates, but...

Re: VOOT frame data
I had neglected to post this when I added the red recovery data earlier: the VOOT timer counts down quicker than real life. It calculates using 25/50 fps PAL format instead of 30/60 fps NTSC format which is how the game actually runs. Therefore the default 80 second time limit is actually only 66.67...

Re: VOOT frame data
After carefully watching a Japanese replay video, I noticed there is a different timing when doing the jump glitch after Temjin's surfboard hits the edge of the stage. When the surfboard expires normally there are 8 unmoving frames at the end with the surfboard still lit, followed by 16 unlit recove...

Re: Virtual-On Oratorio Tangram 2019 versus guide (for PS4)
Zaarock's guide has good instructions for fundamentals and strategy for play as well as advanced techniques, so there should be something for everyone. I was considering to write a guide focusing on fundamentals and strategy but never got around to it. I might still do it someday but it may be a bit...

Re: Virtual-On Twin-Stick Mapping Guide
I'm not sure how they did twin stick controls for Index because that's the first game in the series that was designed around a controller. There are certain subtle movements that work only on a controller which may be difficult to implement with twinsticks. Just as there are some subtle kinds of mix...

Re: Best Gamepad for Virtual On?
Come to think of it some of the Virtual On games allow you to set L3/R3 to something (push the thumbstick in) you could perhaps use those for turbos too.

Re: Best Gamepad for Virtual On?
Very few people or no one that I know of plays that way for an extended period of time, but I agree with your assessment of those basic controllers. I think playing that way is difficult because you may have to use your index finger to hit both the turbo and trigger buttons, or use your middle finge...

Re: Choose any gamertag
I think this is actually bad news disguised as good news to fool people. New gamertags now have a shorter length, from 16 characters (?) down to 12 characters, and the extra characters are used to auto-assign us a number e.g. #123, including one wasted character. I won't even be able to make new Por...

Re: VOOT frame data
I spent three weeks to finish the recovery frame data for all unsafe RT and dash attacks. Some LT attacks also have recoveries but I only marked them in red if their recovery behavior is abnormal. Standing LT attacks can cancel into a walk or dash before full recovery (being able to shoot again with...

Re: Raiden instant lasers
Though some details are only written here, my other thread has more frame data for Raiden. When aiming crouching CW it has a slower 18-frame startup. Although it appears identical to the standing version, walking CW is likewise a different attack and has a slower 18-frame startup, recovering in 39 f...
