Re: Intergalactic Shmuppreciation Month!
We've had a lot of new people enter the tournament in the past few years. In the first couple years it was mostly just the regular forum posters, but the registration thread now gets a lot of people with really low postcounts. So don't be afraid to sign up if you're a n00b. :) I'm not sure if I'm go...

It'd probably be more popular if it was.

You know, if you put something like that up on XBLA with great netcode and a low price, I bet people would flock to it in droves!MentholMoose wrote:I think it'd be cool as a fighting game. Just good ol' fighting robot awesomeness, no lame story-lines required.

Lecter5656 (bal-bados) vs (fei-yen) on Unholy Cathedral stage http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-xmeGnEFwI I should know this :x, but what is that song playing in the background? I know it's an old NES game, either one that I owned during childhood or maybe borrowed/rented a lot. I'm pretty sure it's...

Re: Child of Eden (spirital sequel to Sega's REZ)
Any word on whether or not it supports the Trance Vibrator ?? :) I bought one of those back in the day. They weren't messing around when they designed that thing... vibrates A LOT. Probably comparable to using one of those video game chairs with a built-in subwoofer. Being a dude, I can't attest to...

Re: Intergalactic Shmuppreciation Month!
Is Deathsmiles emulatable? I haven't really been keeping up with shmups lately, but I wouldn't expect to see Deathsmiles in MAME for several years. I know the ROM has been dumped and Guru has it working to some extent (not sure how playable it really is), but the MAME devs wouldn't include such a n...

Re: Quick question about the Two Mission Pack DLC
Thanks; the best thing that can happen now is a US/EUR release. Playing versus Japanese people is not always lag-free... I think releasing it region free pretty much guaranteed there'll be no US/EUR release. Besides, getting a western release doesn't mean people here would actually play the game. L...

Re: Quest for xbox 360 hori sticks
There are a few companies that act as middlemen between westerners and Japanese auction sites (for a fee, of course). I've used Shopping Mall Japan before, but I know there are plenty of others... can't remember the names, though.

Re: Big Time Tournament
Leading them here is the best we can do. We throw crap at the wall and see what sticks. The only thing we could do better would be to actually change the game, or make a new one. Which we can't. Sad, but true. Between the learning curve and the chicken-and-egg problem (nobody plays because nobody p...

Re: Big Time Tournament
I think we could get -a lot- of people in here if we offered Twin Sticks as a door prize. It depends on the goal, I'm not sure what you're aiming for. Could we get a lot of people for the tournament? Perhaps. Can we get a decent number of non-Japanese people to actually stick around and play VOOT o...

I'm not good enough to participate, but I'd most likely show up. Chicago isn't that far for me.

When I think of Apharmd B, I think tongfers, not fists. I like my pun-influenced guess better.Schooly D wrote:Apharmd Battler. I think some of you were overthinking it. He's a boxer. He hits people. With his fists. Apharmd B.
For the latest, I guess Stein-Vok (a hodgepodge of miscellany stitched together).

A Neo Geo cab without Metal Slug? WTF.
Also, Magical Drop > Puzzle Bobble IMHO. Although Puzzle Bobble is way more popular, so maybe I'm wrong.

Re: Any long-time pad players ever switch to twin sticks?
I play on a pad with twinstick controls. Really? I tried that for a bit after the 360 VOOT launch, but something about it just didn't feel right. It could just be my familiarity with the standard pad setup, but at that point I hadn't played with either twin sticks or a pad in years. Anyway, I think...

Any long-time pad players ever switch to twin sticks?
Unlike a lot of people, my first encounter with Virtual On was not at the arcade. It was DC VOOT, using the standard pad setup. It was really awkward at first, but eventually I got used to it. I only really played against the AI, so despite playing it a lot I was still a beginner in the grand scheme...

Re: Magfest 2011- Jan 13 - 16, 2011
I decided against going since: - I bought the Hori twin sticks, so I'm sort of relearning VOOT all over again (Specineff is a much different beast with the sticks). As such, I suck pretty hard at VOOT now... didn't seem worth showing up for that. - I spent a lot of money right after Christmas. New 3...
