Did you have to have a special version of Saturn Virtual On to play over NetLink? I've got a US version of Saturn VO (disc only) and it doesn't say anything about NetLink on the disc.
Also, how smooth/laggy was the online play?

Really, you should always have your main account in what ever region you are from. If you live in America, you should use an American account as your main account. I've yet to try it. I would have burnt and tried the cust-plus disc by now, but I ran out of black CDs. The last thing I burnt was the Customization Disc. I was surprised that I actually had any blank CDs left.

Interesting. In arcades, Japanese arcade, I can see it working somewhat, but on a home network, like Xbox live, it just wouldn't be work. Unlimited and free VR licenses is the only way of doing it that would be acceptable, otherwise it's like buying a crippled game. Now, if they gave that game away ...

Also, that VOOM (OMG) machine you mentioned is also the same one I first saw.

I think VOOT does have a ranking in online mode. If you look at the trailer (at the 30s mark), you can see these weird shapes per person in the lobby. It's a safe bet that these are player ranks.
