Re: Good Games/ Bad Games Thread

According to the tier list I should have a slight advantage, although I'm guessing the list only applies for high level play (never mind the skill disparity ;)).

Now it's more like 2-40. I uploaded a random loss so everybody can laugh at me.

Re: Good Games/ Bad Games Thread

Have any of you guys played any matches against some guy named PhantomPhotonX? I run into him in Ranked sometimes and he totally destroys me. US Temjin player, plays really fast (mostly close to mid range), impeccable Big Two timing, good at CC. I'm like 1-20 against him today. Good times. :) It's o...

Re: 1st Tournament - 2009 September

I will NOT be able to play on October 3, so in the ridiculously unlikely event that I win, the runner-up will have to represent us.

No can do. That's the Chicago shmup meet weekend. :(

...not that I would have stood a chance anyway. Best case scenario, I fluke my way to the Japanese bracket and get utterly humiliated. Still, would have been fun to try.

Re: Roll call - who is still playing VOOT!?

I'll be out of commission as far as VOOT is concerned for a while. :| I have a crazy deadline coming up at work and what gaming time I do have is monopolized by the Shmups tournament, which will run through early October. Although one of my teammates is modding my DC twinsticks. :)

also 2D shooters ala 1942 and the like trip my trigger well, so I know I'll have to do some importing for the CAVE titles. Did you buy a Japanese console? That's the only way to play the Cave imports. If so, Mushihimesama Futari 1.5 will be out in late November. I have Ketsui pre-ordered (my main r...

Re: Roll call - who is still playing VOOT!?

Does it say what the category is, or why it's blocked? Under category "Games," I'm pretty sure. On the plus side, I guess that means VOOT is popular enough that it can no longer slip under Websense's radar. 8-) Although Shmups forum isn't blocked, and I'm sure that gets more traffic than ...

Re: Roll call - who is still playing VOOT!?

I used to play after work (5-6 or 5-7 Eastern Time) but nobody's online around then. That's early morning in Japan and early afternoon on the west coast. There used to be a few people in the ranked lobby around that time, but it's usually empty nowadays. Now I've mostly just been playing on Saturday...

If you're close enough to pick it up, that's cheaper than the official VOOT twin sticks. :)

1016 lbs! Or, roughly 40 cents per pound. 8-)

Re: Japanese Tournament on Sunday, August 2

The schedule for this tournament couldn't be worse for US players. I think a weekday would have been worse (e.g., Friday night). But other than that, yeah, not great for us. Although we only account for like 3% of the players, right? I could have done it easily since I'm in Eastern Time. I'm rarely...

Re: Exercise thread

I avoid squats and deadlifts since I was never taught how to do them and I don't want to mess up my back or knees or anything. Aw, that's too bad. I can't think of any exercises that build more muscle than the Squat and Deadlift. They also cause the others in the gym to fear you, but that's just a ...

Re: Japanese Tournament on Sunday, August 2

I'm still deciding what to do... I'd probably lose right away (since most of you guys are better than me), but it could be fun. I'd only be a couple of flukes away from playing in a Japanese tournament. (I generally have less problems against Japanese players than American players, in fact) I'...

Re: Exercise thread

What do you do when you go to the gym? I first started going to the gym when I was like 19 or 20. I had no idea what to do, so I just followed the routine of the friend I went with. I pretty much do the same thing now, although I go by myself: - Cardio twice a week [usually] (elliptical machine or ...

Re: Tier list thoughts?

The Specineff players I've seen that were really hard to beat really excelled at dodging attacks, and not making themselves vulnerable. So the key is to play better - got it. ;) I'm probably just air dash attacking too much; against good players I'm often a sitting duck for a Big Two during my land...

Can't help with accounting. IT people have more than enough stuff to read during downtime, though.

I have a pretty standard list of sites that I check:
Slashdot
Hacker News
Reddit Programming
Coding Horror
The Daily WTF

For non-IT stuff, also pretty standard:
BBC News
The Onion

Re: Exercise thread

After being effortlessly thin for over 20 years (too skinny, really), the cubicle lifestyle was starting to make me fat. I still looked skinny, but considering I gained 20 pounds after college, I'm sure my body fat percentage was high. So I joined a gym a few months ago. I've never been athletic and...

Re: Tier list thoughts?

I just noticed that Spec vs Rai dropped from 6.5/3.5 to 6/4. Which I think makes sense; Spec has an advantage in speed and projectiles that go through obstacles, but Raidens that use laser cages and also anticipate well and use standing CW are pretty effective. In my experience, it seems like the l...

Re: Post your questions here

Absolutely. :? Is that tier list changing over time? I swear Specineff didn't have anything worse than 5-5 the first time I read it, but now he has two 4.5-5.5 matchups (Grys and Angelan). Angelan is actually 4.5 on the chart aswell. http://ot.virtual-on.com/index.php?%A5%C0%A5%A4%A5%A2%A5%B0%A5%E9...

Re: Post your questions here

Sorry, no help here regarding Specineff vs. Grys-Vok. It's not a terrible matchup, but I definitely tend to lose more than I win. I always forget that forward dashing is usually a bad idea against Grys, but a lot of times my brain doesn't tell me to not do that until a few milliseconds after I...
