I'll drop 100 or more for a DC link cable, or if anyone has a tutorial for making one (I know theres a way, but I lost the email...) that'd work too

Marcus Comstedt Dreamcast PC-Serial Adapter Guide is still the best guide to building a dev cable from scratch. Since you're just connecting two Dreamcasts together, you don't need to worry about voltage conversion. So, you can skip the entire MAX3222 business all together and solder to a DB9 or DB25. Then, walk to any Radio Shack and purchase a null modem connector and use that to tie your two cables together.

The connector on the Dreamcast is a Japanese ISDN plug. Sorry, but it's been so long that I've lost the part # on Black Box.

Long and short story, the DC serial is normal serial except CMOS voltage rather than TTL. Additionally, Virtual-On uses an odd (very fast) baud rate so make sure the cables are short (under a foot for each side).

Any comments about this non-official cable ?

That dragoncast cable looks fine to me.

I have an official DC link cable somewhere, should you need one down the line and I end up finding it before you make your own.

Ah! There you are, Scott! Lol that was the guide you gave me before in the emails, I was hoping I'd be able to relocate it. I'll look into the dragoncast as well. Thanks everyone. :D

That's not too bad. I bought a Sega brand link cable in Japan 9 years ago and it was ¥3,000.

I'm just gonna get a CAT-5 cable for $15.

Granted, I have to buy another XBOX 360 Arcade for $200, another copy of VOOT for $15, and 2 20+" LCD monitors for $240, but in the end, I have the definitive version of VOOT ver. 5.66 in a head-to-head config for MUCH less than a actual cab WITH higher fidelity!

Sadly that's a legitimate concern.

I haven't heard a specific date, just "November".

According to this blogger, Hori should be shipping out the twin sticks late Novermber with an expected arrival date of Nov. 29. So I'm guessing expect them early December from the importers.

I probably won't be able to do anything when I receive my set as my console currently shares the same problem as this one:

stumbled across that faceplate on this blog
maybe if you ask them real nice in Japanese, they can point you in the right direction ;)

I looked into the whole custom faceplate thing from do-it-yourself to comissioning an artist to custom hand-paint one for you...never realized how big the faceplate/case modding scene was for the xbox 360

As for the Dragoncast link cable, can't complain about the one I got, although I've read others report that the build quality isn't the greatest.
