Weekly Best of 9 Challenge

Since we don't have tournaments as much anymore for serious competition, I was thinking about starting a weekly best of 9 round challenge. The 9 means, 9 potential rounds. Set rounds to 5. Can only challenge a player once a week to keep it fresh. Can challenge unlimited opponents.

To sum it up, the rules are:
1. Max round of 5
2. Challenge once a week per player
3. Unlimited opponents. Can't be the same player.
4. Option to not play certain stage (max 2)

PS. Upload matches to the leaderboards for people who want to watch.
PSS. Rule #4 is optional unless someone does not want to play a particular stage

I hate being a wet blanket, but basically every competitive endeavor we've tried since summer of 2009 has failed completely.

I like the idea, but it may need some modification. Is there a way it could be made into like a "Friday Night Fights" deal, and you would showcase matches between two people?

I like the idea, it's kind of like an informal ladder. I'm not sure about rule #4, though... can you clarify? Do you mean stage as in the maps?

Sounds like you can choose two maps you won't play. one would be enough though maybe.

I'd imagine neoken doesnt want undersea plant :p

I'll probably go with undersea plant and sanctuary

That can be a part of this too as long as it is once a week. I just like the anytime moment since it is more flexible. In the past, we have to organize and get people together. Getting people together was the hardest part imo. With this, you see someone online (or anyone) at some random day, play a few best of 3 round games for practice, then challenge them in a best of 9.

Maps as in stages. Rule 4 is optional since some players may not care at all on what stage they play on.

Actually undersea plant is one of my favorites :). It is a well balance map between having obstacles and open area.

I know a lot of players do not like Space Dock due to the giant barricade.

I love being a wet blanket. Basically, every competitive endeavor we've tried since summer of 2009 has failed completely.

Specifically, this kind of reminds me of Schooly's woefully underutilized ladder, which quickly descended into irrelevance at a time when we had more active players than we do now. :|

IMHO, the hard truth is that we simply don't have enough interested players to do anything really competitive anymore (regardless of logistics, tournament formats, prizes, etc).

Moral of the story: a little pessimism goes a long way. 8-)

I can play any time Saturday/Sunday, or any time between 6:00 PM - midnightish (Eastern time) during the week except:
- No Wednesdays
- Preferably not Friday unless it's after 11:00 PM (at least... midnight would be safer)

A guaranteed Menthol appearance could be good for getting people out of the woodwork... I'll try to accommodate if people want to watch live. Chime in, everybody.

I mean who doesn't want to see this?

I just played poorly, no excuses necessary. I played some ranked matches earlier in the morning, almost losing to some scrubs (well under .500) several times.

Did you save the replay? I didn't bother since the matches were pretty terrible; not really worth anyone's time.

Also, typing messages on Hori twin sticks sucks. I can't even use question marks since RT/LT don't change the available characters. It really might be faster to walk over to my computer, sign in to xbox.com, and type messages from there.

Whelp I've won two so far. One against neoKen and one against FruitieDinosaur. In a few moments I'll have the fights uploaded to youtube.

Here's neoKen's fight that I may need to re edit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luleXnYeosk

GG neo hellbeast. Truly a best of 9!

NOTE TO SELF: Drill rush is not like Temjin's surfing ram, not do try to slide underneath it or bad things can happen :(

At least I won a round this time. \o/

Still willing to play whoever challenges me. Going by individual rounds I'm 1-10... come get your easy win!

I'm willing to as long as it's around nighttime (let's say around 8 EST). I still need to get back into VOOT and hopefully, the game doesn't freeze on the second match... :(
