Zaarock wrote: Actually, 9 rounds is sort of unfair for specineff (and some others I guess) since you can only use death mode once per game. Here you can use it on 1/9 of rounds while normally it would be 1/3.
On the flip side, imagine if those kind of specials had 1 use per round (1/1). They would be bordering on cheap! Bal-bados' green projectile absorbing ball, dordray's giant mode, specineff's death mode. Those kind of specials aren't really something a user should depend on, but they're an incredible bonus in a close desperate situation.

Actually, if anyone wants to challenge me, give me a holler via Skype. My Skype name for reference is "tetelstetev". Add me as a contact and give me a holler as to who you are. I'm on Skype essentially as a flag for people to contact me since I tend to browse the internet a lot, so yeah. I'm putting it in my sig as well in case anyone needs to access it at any point.

Shift has really flown under the radar and been playing extremely well lately. Kudos to him.

Sort of off topic but the japanese community has been doing some showcase First to 10's with commentary recently which are a cool idea.

one of them here, starts at 22min: http://t.co/0dRqMNV5xc super close and that stein-vok is insane.

The first player to win 10 matches is the winner. You do need a third person to record video if you want replays but that shouldn't be a problem if people are interested.

Don't need any map selection things since it's a lot of matches instead of one. I'd totally be up for some FT10s like that, lots of matches so you need some endurance like in a tournament, there can be big comebacks and if video is recorded a lot of footage.

Nice find Zaarock. I'm definitely interested if we can get something like that going.

I guess if we do FT10s like that we should have votes on what matchups people want to see. There aren't that many players anymore so we would easily run out of them, though. Almost all the best players are gone now (schooly, menthol, aniking, kongbox, PPX) which sucks though.. I guess close matchups would be preferrable as well.

Would also need to have volunteer commentators who have a good amount of knowledge if we want live commentary like the japanese ones.

Matches I'd be interested in watching/commentating:

neoKEN(bal) vs FlyExponent(gry)
Porcupine(fei) vs OE Exorcet(cyp)
anyone vs MentholMoose(gry)
anyone vs Schooly D(?)

Would be up for fighting anyone really. don't like fighting temjin but w/e :p

Could do VO4 matches too of course.

Off topic: there's a tournament for all VO games starting in a couple days, which is why there's a lot of activity this week http://godsgarden.jp/info/3432/

I'm rusty, but I'm guessing most of us are. I'd be down to play, but I'd be a worthless commentator. :)

I don't know if we have gotten any good or not, but rust would not be an excuse for those of us that are playing semi-actively. The current generation of players is getting competent though, I think the previous champions are not safe. Now would be the perfect time for you guys to come out of retirement and beat us down because if you wait another year, we might not get beat down at all.

So I think we should have a VO team war. The old guys versus us new guys (in terms of Xbox 360 age, not necessarily real life age).

Teams should be something like Mentholmoose, Schooly D, PPX, and Aniking, and whoever else, versus Zaarock, Neoken, me, FlyExponent, and OE Exorcet, and whoever else. Teams dont have to be balanced in number since we are challenging the bosses. Like a bunch of upcoming players challenging the original Elite Four or something, hahaha. Attack whoever you want. And it doesn't have to be a lot of matches either, the fewer matches there are the more chance for us new guys to luck out and win!

It is too hard to organize that many people. That is why we don't have larger tournaments anymore. If there someone you want to challenge, challenge them then set a time to play.

I've contacted aniking and Menthol to ask if they'd be interested. Fair warning, though: you will not survive.

Well that was certainly an escalation of things  I'm still for the first to 10 thing since you just need three people at once and it can give some great matchup footage (doesn't mean we can't have a team competition with them)

I'm not sure if PPX is an "old guy", it seemed to me he was also starting out when the XBLA port came out in 2009 like me, neoken and daverudolph. Porcupine and FlyExponent are the real new players (on 360) but very fast learners. In some time they can rival most of us for sure.
Schooly D wrote:Fair warning, though: you will not survive.
To be fair Porcupine has never seen aniking play a match, perhaps it will change his view of things :P
