Using the Street Fighter IV fightpad for the Twin Stick mod?

Post by gtrainx »

Hi all,

Lot of great ideas on this board! I was wondering, as I am new to controller modding and what not, would it be easier using the Street Fighter IV fightpad for the twin stick mod? (They appear to be available on the Madcatz website now, so don't bother with the insane ebay prices).

Just curious, since you have to sacrifice a wired xbox controller anyways...

Also, some pictures of the pcb were found on a thread on the shoryuken.com board

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum!

When you say easier, what specifically do you mean? Easier than what, and easier how?

You can use any 360 pad as long as it uses a common ground setup. Actually that's not entirely true, you can use the M$ controllers, but they can be a pain when it comes to the wiring. Much simpler to use a CG pad.

I used a 4716 Madcatz pad (same as rebranded Gamestop pad), that's all I could get. It's relatively small and compact. You can also use the Madcatz 'arcade' stick (like MM used, I think), but it's bigger, not that it really matters much. It's generally a cheaper controller and can be found in most bargain bins.

I actually suggested this awhile ago, since all the buttons, including the triggers, are digital. It was just kinda price prohibitive at the time. Welcome!

I think using the fightpad would be easier than a traditional xbox gamepad solely for the fact that there are no analog controls or triggers to deal with. Since everything is digital, the connections should be straightforward (now I just have to figure out what things to solder).

By the way, any chance that Sega will announce a Twin Stick peripheral at E3?

Oh yeah, I forgot the whole thing is digital. If you can get one at a decent price then it would be worth it. Resistors on the other hand aren't that expensive. ;)

Wishful thinking, but I doubt it.

A regular controller has enough digital buttons for VOOT, so analog buttons aren't an issue. Also, the fightpad seems to have small solder points, like a Microsoft controller. With a standard MadCatz, the solder points are larger. So, I don't think it's any better than a standard MadCatz.
