1st Oratan.com VOOT Team Challenge!

Post by Schooly D »

UPDATE: The tournament is over! Click here for results!

Before the 2nd US-International Tournament, I'd like to try something a little different. Namely, a VOOT team tournament!

1st Oratan.com VOOT Team Challenge

Logistics:
Date: Saturday, October 17, 2009
Time: 9PM Eastern
Location: Xbox Live
Open to: Everyone

Tournament Info:
Team Size: 3 players
Team Point Cap: 5 points (see below)
Format: Single-elimination tournament
Seeding: Random
VR restrictions: None
First place prize: A warm, fuzzy feeling

How Team Matches Work:
In a given match between two teams, one person from each team will play exactly one person from the opposing team. The team that wins the most games will be the winners. Here's an example match:
Team Red = Player A, Player B, Player C
Team Blue = Player 1, Player 2, Player 3
Player A vs. Player 2, Player A wins
Player B vs. Player 1, Player 1 wins
Player C vs. Player 3, Player C wins
Team Red wins
Before a given match between two teams, the captain of the team with the lower point value will decide who plays whom.
If both teams have an equal number of points, then one team will pick the first match-up, and the other team will pick the second match-up. I will flip a coin to see who picks first

Points and Point Caps:
The Point Cap for this tournament is 5 points. That means the Team Worth of all members of a team added up cannot exceed 5 points. Here is the current points list, generated from the results of the previous tournament (USIT1):

anikingVOOT: 5 points (special case, not actually in the rankings)
MentholMo0se: 4 points
Schooly D: 4 points
DeltastrikeX: 2 points
Sixfortyfive: 2 points
SolarSonic: 2 points
DaveRudolph: 1 point
Lnbot: 1 point
Neo Helbeast: 1 point
Shamanic Beat: 1 point
WyldstyleNeo: 1 point
All other players: 0 points (free!)

point cap formula: (points held by #1 player [MentholMo0se]) + ([n-1]/2)*(average points held by all players)
n = team size (3)
point cap = (4) + (1)*(1.9) = 5 (rounded down)

So, for example, a team consisting of MentholMo0se (4), Sixfortyfive (2), and Shamanic Beat (1) would be illegal (4 + 2 + 1 = 7 > 5). A team consisting of MentholMo0se (4), Shamanic Beat (1), and a player not listed above (0) would be legal (4 + 1 + 0 = 5).

Special Cases:
  • If a team member is missing during the tournament, the team may replace him, so long as the point cap is not exceeded.
  • In the event of a tie, the team with the lower point value will be the winner.
  • The minimum number of teams for this tournament to happen is 4. Any less, and the tournament will be cancelled!
Sign-up Information:
To sign up your team, post in this thread with the following information:
  • Team Name
  • Team Motto
  • Team Members (designate who on the team is Captain)
If the above date/time does not work for you, let me know! We can try to work something out, if possible!

You may use this thread to organize a team! Good luck, and happy hunting!

Time doesn't work for me. Just like last time, my job hour is over precisely the start of the tournament.

Can't participate as this starts at 3 AM in finland, looks promising though. Probably around midnight in all european time zones.

That time should work for me. I'll play for whoever thinks I'm worth a point.

Midnight on a Sunday is probably too late for me as I wake up at 6AM to go to work. Saturday night might be better (certainly better for me).

I'm game, but the earlier, the better. I work night shift from Sun through Thurs now, and my hours are somewhat flexible, but staying any later than 10PM EST is pushing it.

You can propose the idea in the General section of the forum. That's where I do my propositions.

On any given Saturday: I'm probably available more often than not.
Saturday 10/10: Nope. Although it seems to work better for most people, so no big deal.

How will the "skill points" given to the players from this event be determined, individual stats? The lower point team picking the matchups seems like a big advantage, I would have preferred all vs all but I guess that would take up too much time. Will be interesting to see how this all works out.

The way I see it, the outcome of this tournament will have no effect on how many points a player has. This is just something for fun. The points can continue to be tied only to the USITS.

So, how would Saturday, 8PM Eastern work for everyone? Does this still conflict with your schedule, Shamanic? What would be the latest start time for you to play, Zaarock?

This looks difficult to put a time on. I wont make it any worse by adding another schedule to worry about. Let me know what the final decision is on the time and ill let Schooly D know if i can make it or not. I have birthdays to attend to and all that. Yeah one less schedule for schooly to adjust to lol :)
