ADOPT-A-NOOB TOURNAMENT NEEDS TEACHERS

Post by Schooly D »

Chhipz had a neat idea for a rookie tournament, which was to essentially place new players under the tutelage of veteran players who would teach them how to play the game, then have the rookies compete against each other in a tournament.

Personally I think it's a great idea, especially if we can hit some of the major competitive-gaming forums that we've missed in the past. Of course, a lucrative prize (MS points probably) would be required.

So, I'm opening up this thread for two things:

1) Post if you would like to be a teacher to a new pilot, and which VRs you feel confident teaching. Remember that we can't have a lot of rookies without having a lot of teachers, so sign up!

2) Post if you'd be willing to donate some Microsoft Points for the 1st place prize (and possibly door prize)

I've already got a youtube video briefly demoing each of the VRs, as well as descriptions of the VRs for whatever forums we hit. So let's go!

I can do a 1600 point card, though I would appreciate it if someone could split the cost. I am probably going to be busy in the coming weeks so I don't think I can dedicate much time to this... maybe a couple hours here and there for some training sessions. Also I'd rather do Grys-Vok only, other than the basics I am no good with other VRs.

I wouldn't mind buying a 1600 point card or something.

As for mentoring, I'm not a good teacher, and I mostly just play by intuition. For anything beyond the basics, I'd just be like, "uh, just play a lot, you'll figure it out eventually." :?

Besides, Specineff is probably not a good VR for noobs. And Stein-Vok is, well, Stein-Vok.

I think it's a great idea in general, though, but probably not for me.

Sounds fun, though there is no way I can teach anyone considering I'm one of those instinct type players

Hell I haven't even read up on this so-called "vectoring" yet XD

Do I count as a veteran? lol. I might be able to do this, but

I only have XBL until July

I will be gone for a good chunk of this month in the coming week

So unless the tournament is rather soon, and a get a student quick, I don't know.

Also, more of you need to add me, and Schooly needs more room on his friends list [come on, I'm a fellow Cypher!]

I am making myself available as a teacher for the following VR's: Temjin, 10/80, Fei-Yen, and Specineff. I usually play from Friday-Sunday (afternoon hours preferred). As most of you know by now, my style focuses on speed and offense, so anyone who likes this style should find me to be a suitable teacher. I can also explain the major concepts of the game, and strategies that will work with any VR. So even if someone picks a VR that I don't normally use, I would be willing to teach them if no one else volunteers.

I can volunteer for Fei Yen & Angelan, tho most of my experience is in 5.2 and arcade. (In other words, I suck at controllers ^^)

Anyone who wants to take the plunge and become a Phone Man I can teach. In the mean time I need Fei Yen training since I'm just a newcomer who happens to be good as Phoneman xD

When I come back a few weeks from now, I'd like some Cypher training as well. I can also offer some help and training with Temjin.
