Anyone excited about anything announced at E3 this year? I attended yesterday and today and saw some good stuff. Also I found StarPlatinum87 working at the Killer Instinct Season 2 demo stations. :-)

The Smash Invitational was pretty hype. I really haven't played Smash at all but that was fun to watch.

Splatoon looks really fun, actually - definite buy if I ever get a WiiU.

The Doom teaser actually pissed me off a bit, I can't help but feel they're going to screw it up.

Splatoon did look pretty cool from what I saw, but I didn't check out any of these big games since they usually had long lines and/or huge crowds. Especially today... every line was just crazy long. The line to get in to the Oculus VR booth was wrapped completely around their booth (easily 100+ people) every time I checked today (yesterday it was only halfway around the booth, which was still too long for me).

I focused a bit on the indie game area and saw some good stuff that I will probably buy.
  • Sportsfriends - It looks like a great party game. People were constantly playing it and having a blast.
  • Hohokum - I saw this last year and I still have no idea what is going on but it does look cool. It reminds me a little bit of Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet which I loved.
  • Broforce - I actually already bought the PC version on Steam (currently in Early Access) and it seems to be coming along nicely since I last played it.
  • So Many Me - This looks great if you like 2D platformers. I played the Ouya version but it is also coming out on Steam.
Some of the bigger budget games also caught my attention.
  • Killer Instinct Season 2 - The trailer definitely looks cool. There was always a crowd at the demo stations.
  • Hatsune Miku Project DIVA F 2nd - I was surprised to see this coming to the US since it seems like a niche title, but actually the previous version is already released!
  • Forza 5 - This is already out but there is a new update with the Nürburgring. I wanted to give it a try since Microsoft had a nice triple-screen setup for it with (I think) 7.1 audio. However, since everyone got to complete a full lap, even a short line would take over an hour to get through. I gave it a shot but quickly lost my patience while watching someone continually crashing into walls to the point that the windscreen was thoroughly cracked... doing that for an hour would be miserable. Plus I can always do Nürburgring runs on various other games at home, and I think my Fanatec wheel setup is better than even the soon-to-be-released Xbox One Mad Catz Pro wheel they had.
  • Valiant Hearts - I have no idea about the gameplay but the trailer definitely looks cool.
  • Alien: Isolation - There was a setup for it in the Sega booth with a huge line, but I found it in the Sony booth so I got a good look at the demo. It looked really intense.
  • Akiba's Trip - This looks pretty funny. I first thought the title was Akiba Strip since the game involves running around Akihabara ripping the clothes off of enemies.
  • Guns Up! - The demo was really fun and I played it a couple times while chatting with one of the developers. It seems like the final version will be much more involved so it will be interesting to see how it turns out.
Lastly there was some interesting hardware.
  • Simcraft - Last year Ubisoft had one of these motion simulators in their booth, but IIRC it was running some kind of hovercraft game which didn't appeal to me. This year they had two of them running an actual driving game, The Crew. I waited in line to try it. The line was kind of short, but it still took an hour since each person got about 10 minutes to play. The game is cool but not really the type of driving game I like, but the simulator is ridiculously awesome. I want one so much!!! But it costs more than a real car unless you can DIY your own chassis. I talked to one of the employees and it sounds like they are doing good, so maybe someday they can release one I can afford and fit in my house somewhere (or maybe I will just need to win the lotto).
  • Alienware Alpha - Alienware's Alpha mini gaming PC looks good. However I already have a PC in a slim HTPC case in my living room.

That Hatsune Miku game for PS3 seems like a good way for me to check out what all the fuss is about. If it goes on sale I might buy it.

I played the demo of the new version a little bit. The gameplay seems like a standard rhythm game, but I think what separates it from other games in the genre is the community aspect. For example, you can create and upload your own songs and levels, and download them from other people. Here's a interview about the new version.

The thing that totally bummed me out the most out of this years E3 was the reveal that Grasshopper Manufacture had scrapped Lily Bergamo and turned it into Let It Die, a F2P manhunt-esque online game.

Akiba's Trip was released on PC! Currently it's $27. Check the Steam store page. I've been playing it the last few days. It's pretty fun so far. The port is stable enough (I've had one or two crashes) but it looks like it's locked at 30 FPS.
