Account region migration is now possible on Xbox Live

Post by Porcupine »

Starting just recently, mid-January 2013, it is now possible to easily migrate your Xbox Live account to any region you like, by using xbox.com.

http://support.xbox.com/en-US/billing-a ... nge-region

Of course, we should expect this system to be glitchy, and who knows what will work and what will break when you do this. But, it's potentially really useful. I decided to take the risk and migrated my dummy Japanese account (which I used to activate my Force download code) from Japan to the USA. By doing this we can load up the account with cheap USA microsoft points! And then my plan is to migrate the account back to Japan when I want to purchase some Japan-exclusive downloads, for example the useless and overpriced Missions DLC for Force (I'm hoping they go on sale at some point).

Doing this can reduce the cost of "Japanese" microsoft points by like a factor of 4 or more! (domestic microsoft points can occasionally be purchased for half price, while japanese microsoft points tend to cost double of normal)

Do you think it would be possible to get Operation Moongate this way when it is released? The reason I ask is because I found out earlier today that VOOM, along with Virtua Striker, will be Japan-only titles. I'm quite sure it can be done, but I just wanted to double-check with you guys.

Even if VOOM releases only in Japan, you should still be able to purchase it the old way. Make a separate Japanese account and use it to buy VOOM. Once purchased and downloaded, you should still be able to play VOOM on your normal USA account, as downloaded content is licensed to your console.

The main advantage of region migration is that it gives you a way to load up a Japanese account with cheap USA-purchased microsoft points. The limitation is that you can only migrate your account every 3 months.

Hmm, I originally made 2 Japanese dummy accounts, neither with a Japanese e-mail address. And my console IP is of course located in the USA. On one account I redeemed a Force boob code. On the other account I downloaded the free game Monster Hunter Frontier to get infinite 48-hour codes.

So I suppose it could either be an issue with the new region migration process, and/or an issue with payment.

So you need a japanese IP to migrate your account to japan? guess that makes sense.. Before only Games on Demand releases were IP locked

It is indeed locked by IP. I helped Vash purchases VO4 from Game on Demand. I only tried VO4 though.

Since it takes 3 months waiting period inorder to change back to our original region, I think it is better to stockpile now as much MS points that you are willing to spend for 3 months then wait for VOOM to come out.

Waiting for play-asia to email me a points code, will get it afterwards. 1-minute time limit in the trial and widescreen only display(weird, force and voot supported like every resolution) are sorta bad imo. Hope the netcode is good. Should be worth 800msp anyway :p

Here is the direct link to VOOM on Japanese XBOX Marketplace

I'm going to make another thread for VOOM XBLA so people can post their thoughts and impression.

If someone does a region transfer to Japan just for VOOM, I would also suggest getting SEGA's Virtua Striker. Vash and I just bought it. There is an ingame big head mode by entering a secret code (I submitted that to gamefaqs). To me, the game looks better in widescreen mode than VOOM.
