Stick a flat screwdriver between the plate and the plastic, it will come off.

If I can find it, I'll upload to YouTube a video that I recorded back in the day. Scott built a special disk that booted the game up in a mode where the AI never fired a shot. As a side-effect, Tangram never opened up.
