So if anyone actually liked the sticks and wanted them, here's what Hori sent to me about getting them shipped direct from them:

I am sorry, any commodity doesn't send it out out of Japan on the shopping our Internet site.
They even "translated" it to English for us, how kind!

A lot of Japanese companies only accept pre-orders from Japan. (ie. They don't ship overseas)

Sega used to do it from their online store as well.

I shudder to think what the freight costs would be to ship that thing, depending how heavy it is, but I don't think you'd get much change from $50 if they airmail it.

Would this not work for pre-ordering/shipping? I know it's good for YJA and other japanese auction sites, I wonder if it would work for this?

You mean something more along the lines of this? Betcha Hori would've gotten a few more pre-orders with this bad boy ;) Oh well one can always dream...

Now that's something I would buy!

Is that a real creation or just photoshopped?

That definitely looks photoshopped to me, though I have to say that would be a really nice twin stick setup and something I would buy too (except maybe it should have a wider base).

The colors, Xbox Live logo, and extra buttons are Photoshopped. It is similar to my modded arcade Twin Sticks.

Ok, it's photoshopped, but I like it ^^

Seriously, had HORI done that instead, i'd put $300 for it, i'd be selling valuables right now on ebay...Seriously, for a photoshop, that is something worth at least $300, maybe more.

The plushie, if i'm not mistaken, is the TEMJIN 707 that used to be avalable in UFO catchers....anyone know if they still do that? I know one or two pop up on ebay every now and then...

Yeah - that one and this

were posted a few months back on one of the 2ch.net threads during a more innocent time when everyone was speculating about if and when there would be an official XBLA twin stick controller. Be careful what you wish for?

On a more serious note, the grips are a big concern for the fanbase.

If I'm interpreting this web-translated Japanese correctly, one arcade tried to replace original grips with this Sanwa model in a machine, but the machine started losing money so they changed it back to the original grips. Also it seems that Saturn/DC grips could be transplanted onto the Sanwa shaft (as seen in the pic above) which can only be attached at the bottom hole of the shaft. There were unconfirmed reports that this was tried and that the grips were unstable and they cracked.

It's not too surprising that players want the real grips, especially at that price!!!

I emailed Hori too, they also turned me down.

Which is retarded cause I probably hold the world record on owning their stuff. I even have the FF-X2 tiny bee controller

Now those mock ups are things that I could get behind! :P

Why didn't Sanwa just make the grips like the original? I guess Sega holds a patent for the design? That blows.

I can understand peoples desire to have the correct grip. As much as I love Sanwa gear, them sticks don't look very comfortable, especially after a long play session. For the premium price you're paying, you'd expect the real deal!

It might be possible to use the VO grips on the Sanwa sticks, either swap the whole shaft (if possible) or drill another hole in the Sanwa shaft to accommodate the top bolt as long as it's long enough.
