Feeling the love ^_^

Post by Knoxximus »

Seriously fellas...I mean I've been involved with many gaming communities, from the Street Fighter crowd, thru the Phantasy Star Online parties, to the Halo squads. I have to say, I have never *ever* felt the level of camaraderie and mutual respect regardless of skill level that I feel in here.

I mean, I've played a few random douches in VOOT online, but everyone in here and most everyone online who plays are more than willing to keep playing and even teach you things, no matter how bad you suck.

And I'm not even a VO veteran like a lot of you are. I mean, for people like Menthol, feixaq, jiakhang, Dave Rudolph and Quad, this release of an online enabled VOOT (5.66 no less) must be akin to the second coming! I mean, it's like a high school reunion, when no one ever thought there would ever be one or something.

Then, you have the icing on the cake!...the Japanese VOOT community. This is the 1st XBLA game I've played where foreign players are the majority...and most of them AREN'T PLAYING AROUND. To be able to spar with them in player matches is an honor and a privilege to me, especially when they perfect me twice and STILL give me another go...and I thank each and every one of them for playing with me when they finally disconnect.

I mean, for a pilot like Menthol, who was forced into an early retirement, to be able to, on any given day, turn on his 360 and challenge some of the best pilots in the world from the comfort of his couch....words cannot express this.

Never again will anyone have to be stuck with the CPU as a playmate. And the Xbox Live Party feature is implemented perfectly. We can laugh, joke, chide, give tips and play together all night long. I am excited everyday to play VOOT, and am upset that I didn't really get into back then.

Then again, everything happens for a reason, and with the industry I love feeling more and more stale by the day, VOOT is like a breath of fresh, mountain air for me.

I'm thankful that I discovered this community, and that guys like Menthol and Schooly D aren't elitist asses who talk down to everyone else. And I am thankful for everyone who is a member of this community that also celebrates VOOT. This game was so far ahead of it's time it's scary.

This is the most fun I've had gaming in a loooong time. :D

I'm glad you're having fun, I definitely am, too! It's nice that the VO community is mostly mature. It's pretty annoying to have to play with um, annoying people.

Oh yeah! I was hardcore into it on the DC in back in 2000. Got back into it when if came out for the Xbox as well, though I felt that voice chat made it lose some of the charm that the text bubbles gave it. Tried to get into Universe but just couldn't. I have Portable for my PSP, though I play by myself every now and then, and will probably pick up the DS version later this year. Been meaning to jump on a fan server for Blue Burst, but just don't have the time right now.

*charges DBZ type attack* "SAKURAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!" (kudos to anybody who gets that reference)

lol nah. We could be smashboards except our game is better then their Brawl. Melee has a special place in my heart though.

Our game is impossible to be good at unless you use twin sticks.

A pity, the BB fanservsrs are bursting with activity. Gamecube has been picking up again aswell...

To be fair, I don't really "play" much these days, I sit in the lobby and talk with friends...I have like a million hours and i'm only level 27 :P

But i'm level 136 on GC, so it evens out :P

Of-course I get the reference sadly enough... I like both Brawl and Melee equally. Even though Melee is a broken and buggy game.

tripping is mainly what ruined it. that and the fact metaknight is so overpowered.

oh well those were never meant to be tourney games anyway. I prefer my VOOT guilty gear or street fighter games of choice.

Meta isn't as OP as people make him seem... but yes tripping is lame. I've kicked so many people's asses with Wolf it's not even funny. It's like what's that a tornado? Blaster! You can spam that all you want I'll just blaster you every time.

Blah I never liked Street Fighter. I'm a Virtua Fighter fan myself.

I haven't posted on many different video game forums, but in general it seems like niche games have more civil communities. Maybe there's a feeling of solidarity when you find other people playing something most people have never heard of. Plus, on average, I think VOOT players are a little older, and thus more mature.

I didn't realize that beating up the AI in 2001-2002 made me a veteran. Awesome! 8-)

But in a way, this is something I've been waiting for that I thought would never happen. I remember waiting for Quad's DC VOOT netplay mod to come to fruition. I couldn't wait to play against opponents that actually knew what they were doing. :) AFAIK he never quite finished it, although he made good progress, which is still really impressive in my book. After that, VOOT fell off my radar until I was blindsided by the 360 announcement. I would have bought a 360 just to play it if I didn't already have one. Ironically, I bought a 360 specifically to play Ketsui, which has been delayed indefinitely.

Despite not being a super great player, I totally agree! The only thing that used to keep this game from being my all-time favorite was that I had nobody to play against. I'm still not quite used to playing against other people, though, since most video games that I like are single-player. I can't just reset when I'm playing like crap. :?

Does feel sorta like a high school reunion... cept for me it was...community college. Not even sure who in the AuburnVO group is currently playing in xbla. I never really was a contributer to VOOT back then tho... VOOM was in our college so all i really played was that. I did own VOOT back then but i could never make time to play with the AVO group so I really hung around with them @ school.

Lol here's an old pic from their website. I iz da azn dude.... (O____o;) http://auburnvo.org/gallery/B%26W/1.html

Good times.

Ahh, the good times of AVC. Hacking the VOOM machine for free credits. Regular and frequent VOOT DC cable gatherings.
