Okay, so I just did a "full restore" on my VO machine (moved it to its new location in my new house, used 8 magic erasers to get rid off all the dirt/grime/unspeakable fluids from 15 years in a Canadian skating rink, finally got around to fixing the faulty wiring job that made it so one had to plug and replug all the cords several times to get the Slave Side to boot up, and got rid of the pesky magnetic field that was making the monitors discolored) and I was testing it out when I failed miserable because I tried to watari dash... in VOOM. Anyway, angry as I was, I killed myself and switched to Raiden, who I have hardly ever played and considered my worst character.
That's when it happened.
I accidentally hit Start and shifted into the behind-the-head view mode, pretty much first person, and everything clicked. I couldn't see much of the stage, but suddenly aiming the laser seemed effortless. With the enemy as zoomed in as they were, I could hit them with a laser by pretty much just having them on my screen. I even got Jaguarandi down to dangerous levels... didn't beat him, so it wasn't really impressive, but on Very Hard mode as my worst character... I was pleased. I will admit that once I got used to VOOM again I was still best as Dorkas but it was really cool to realize the power of a mode I had once considered useless. Anyone else utilize "sniper" mode?

FPS mode? This is in VOOM. What?! I'm confused...do you just mean it's easier to aim the lasers on the arcade twin sticks than with a Saturn pad? Or is there really a FP mode? o.o

Re: Raiden is a Sniper
If you hit the "Start" button after a battle begins (only on an original VOOM machine) it will actually shift the view and zooms in to just behind your VR's head. Everything becomes a lot more level and your view is zoomed in so you see less at a time, it's useless in most cases but I find it quite useful with Raiden. I didn't even notice it was possible for quite a while and there don't seem to be any videos of it around, I'll take a clip on my Droid and post it...

So...um...similar to how you can use Viper II as a close-combat mech and even take on Apharmd head-on with chained sword-blows and of course Viper II's third close-combat weapon (the homing beam also works at close range
)

Ahh ok, so this is only at the arcade machine? Figures. That's a neat little thing they did though. Is it only on VOOM, I wonder? Oh and
That's why you don't get hit.shamanic_beat wrote:Too bad it dies in one hit...

I'm ASSUMING it's just on the arcade since I can't find any way to do it on the ports or any mention of it and there's no dedicated "Start/View" button on the ports (with Start functioning as a pause). As for it being on the others... well, someone ship me a VOOT machine and I'll be happy to investigate

I know that the PS2 port had that first-person mode, but I'm not sure if that's the same as what you're talking about.

Re: Raiden is a Sniper
No, this isn't really a "mode" and isn't the same kind of first person.

Here's an example (and the first proof I've posted that I ACTUALLY have a VOOM machine xD) it doesn't look much more useful because I'm holding the Droid in one hand and shooting with the other but it really has a huge difference.

OoOOOo Nice! Thanks for that video Fygar. Interesting, interesting. But dang man! You've got a set of VOOM machines. I'm so envious. As for sending you a VOOT machine, hahaha! Yea, let me get on that.

I've tried that "sniper mode" using the Model 2 Emulator, it's a bit wierd and I'm not really familiar with VOOM so I did not make any difference =/

VOOT: Raiden, Apharmd C, Apharmd B, Cypher, Temjin
French VO Pilot !

Well, it's really only useful for rotation laser with Raiden, and even then only at certain moments. It's useful to me sometimes but I doubt it really affects others much...
